These are the 136 ground magnetometers used in the AMIE runs made in November, 1995, by Barbara Emery, HAO/NCAR, emery@ncar.ucar.edu. November 20, 1995. Definitions: 1) # = order of magnetometer stations, which are ordered approximately in alat 2) nm3 = 3 character name of station used in file names (in lower case) or in the data (in upper case). These may not be the 'official' names. 3) name= full name of the station 4) cmp = components of the 1 minute data: Geographic (XYZ), or local magnetic (DHZ or EHZ). All coordinates are in nT except for D which is in tenths of degrees. Note that E is like D, but is in nT, and is usually from a variation station. (The exception to this is CNB, which was converted to EHZ from original DFI coordinates.) 5) h = 1 if the original data are hourly. (None for this data set.) 6) a = 1 if the original data was in analog form and was digitized. 7) glat= geographic latitude of the station in degrees 8) glon= geographic longitude of the station in degrees 9) alat= apex latitude of the station in degrees. alat is defined over the entire globe, and is similar to corrected geomagnetic in the high latitudes. 10)alon= apex longitude of the station in degrees. 11)dec = declination angle as determined at 110 km from the IGRF between geographic north and local magnetic north. This is the angle used to convert DHZ or EHZ data to XYZ data. 12)psi = angle between geographic north and apex north. This is the angle used to convert XYZ data to magnetic apex XYZ data. 13) e = 1 if the data have been edited, rather than just averaged or undergone coordinate transformation. 14)source = the source of the original data. Contact addresses and further information are given below for those that wish to work further with the station data. Hopefully, one minute versions of the original data will be available in the 400 character/line NGDC format on anonymous ftp at some time after checking with all donars. Files are named 'nm39311.s0,1'. Files that end with .s0 have either been taken directly from the source data, have been averaged from the source data if it is in finer time resolution, or has been simply converted to another coordinate system. However, files that end with .s1 have been edited in some fashion, and so carry a '1' under the 'e' column defined above. The editing either removed unrealistic data spikes or corrected baselines. In general, these editing decisions were made solely by Barbara Emery, without contacting the data provider, although this will be done before putting these stations on anonymous ftp. At times, several stations came from several providers, but only one was chosen below, often on the basis of choosing absolute instead of variation values.
