GEM Workshop at the Fall AGU Meeting
------------------------------------
      We will hold GEM mini-workshops again at the Fall AGU meeting in 
San Francisco.  Two rooms will be reserved for the GEM working group 
meetings from 1:00 to 6:00pm on Sunday, December 6, 1992, prior to the 
week of AGU meeting. Please plan to attend and make your travel 
reservation accordingly. More details about the workshops will be sent 
out in the next GEM Messenger.

Note from the NSF Program Director

      Everyone should have received by now the NSF booklet "Global Change 
Research Program: 1993 Research Opportunities" which provides an 
announcement of GEM on page 26 and the target date of October 15.  We 
will hold closely to that due date (for mailing date); if you are delayed 
at all, please call the program director.  
      The application guide "Grants for Research and Education in Science 
and Engineering" (GRESE) has been updated very recently (NSF92-89; 
replaces 90-77).  Please note the following changes: (1) a 15 page limit 
on the text of the proposal Project Description (prior NSF support must 
also fit within these same 15 pages) and (2) a limit of two pages per 
investigator for biographical sketches.
