Job Announcement - High Altitude Observatory (HAO)
--------------------------------------------------
                               Scientist I
                       Geospace Environment Modeling

As part of the Geospace Environment Modeling (GEM) program, sponsored by
the National Science Foundation, a research position in the general field of
large-scale magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling is being established at the High
Altitude Observatory (HAO) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research
(NCAR). The selected scientist will conduct independent research and will
collaborate with other scientists in the GEM program, from institutions
throughout the world, on the scientific analysis of GEM data, on the development
and utilization of computer models of global magnetosphere-ionosphere processes,
and on the planning and execution of GEM campaign efforts. Part of the
collaborative research will involve the Assimilative Mapping of Ionospheric
Electrodynamics (AMIE) procedure and the Thermosphere-Ionosphere-Mesosphere-
Electrodynamics General Circulation Model (TIME-GCM), both of which are
supported by HAO. There will also be the opportunity to do research in other
areas of solar and solar-terrestrial physics and related fields. The Scientist
I position is at the first of four levels on the NCAR appointment ladder, and
has a three-year term.

Requirements Include:
    1. Ph.D. in a physical or mathematical science, or equivalent combination
of education and experience.
    2. Research experience in the field of large-scale magnetosphere-
ionosphere coupling, or in a related scientific field.
    3. Demonstrated skill in the analysis and interpretation of scientific
data and/or model results.
    4. Record of publications in refereed journals showing originality and
creativity, and giving evidence of the applicant's research.
    5. Record of active participation in collaborative research projects.

Also desired, but not required:
     1. Experience with the analysis of simultaneous observations from
multiple instruments.
     2. Experience with computer simulation models.
     3. Record of active participation in the GEM program.

Materials required for application:
     1. Curriculum vitae
     2. List of all scientific publications
     3. Addresses for three scientists familiar with applicant's work
