Reminder of Target Date for GEM Proposals
-----------------------------------------

    The target date for GEM proposals is October 15. Proposers should
contact the Program Director, Tim Eastman, regarding any delay beyond this
date (email to teastman at nsf.gov). Please give estimated date of receipt
at NSF. If at all possible, such delay should not go beyond about one week.

    The official description given in last year's Global Change brochure
still applies for FY93; the current year brochure became available only
last week. Basically, the GEM program will continue to emphasize the Cusp
and Boundary Layer Campaign with some start for the Tail and Substorm
Campaign.

                                            Tim Eastman

may be obtained by sending a message to the editor. You may also obtain
these data via anonymous ftp. The presently available intervals are:

1. 91, Aug. 28, 2307 to 91, Sep. 01, 0100

To obtain these data files in ascii format via internet anonymous ftp,
proceed as follows. Ftp to terra.igpp.ucla.edu and login as anonymous.
Use your full name as password. Then change directory (cd) to
/scratch/gem/imp8. Then use command "get file_name" to retrieve
these data. The file names are:

imp8.aug28-sep01.1991.gsm
imp8.dec01-dec11.1992.gsm
imp8.dec17-dec26.1992.gsm
imp8.sep08-sep12.1991.gsm
imp8.sep25-oct01.1991.gsm

The data are in GSM coordinates and have a time resolution of 61.4 seconds.
There are 14 data columns in these files containing Universal Time, Magnetic
Field and Spacecraft Position:
columns 1-7:   Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute, Second, mSeconds;
Columns 8-11:  Bx(GSM), By(GSM), Bz(GSM),|B|;
Columns 12-14: X(GSM), Y(GSM), Z(GSM).

If you have problem obtaining these data via anonymous ftp, please send
