More IMP-8 Data Available for GEM Campaign
------------------------------------------

All the IMP-8 Magnetic field records requested for correlative studies
of the WG1 intervals identified at the Snowmass meeting have now been 
received. We should be very grateful to Ron Lepping and Gary Marechek
for putting in the extra effort to send us these data ahead of schedule.
The data in ascii format are stored on the site "terra.igpp.ucla.edu" 
and can be retrieved via internet anonymous ftp.  

To get these data, proceed as follows. Ftp to terra.igpp.ucla.edu and
login as anonymous. Use your name as password. Then change directory
(cd) to /scratch/gem/imp8. Then use command "get file_name" to 
retrieve these data. Command "ls" will give you all the file names.

We have made time corrections to the two data files containing 1992 
IMP-8 IMF data, which were announced in October 3, 1993 issue of the
GEM Messenger (Vol.3, No.15). The times were off by one day in these two 
old files (imp8.dec01-dec11.1992.gsm and imp8.dec17-dec26.1992.gsm).
Now we have replaced them by two new files, imp8.nov30-dec10.1992.gsm
and imp8.dec16-dec25.1992.gsm, respectively. If you had the two old
files, please delete them and get the new files. We apologize for this
mistake.

The IMF data are in GSM coordinates and have a time resolution of 61.4 seconds.
There are 14 data columns in these files containing Universal Time, Magnetic
Field and Spacecraft Position: 
columns 1-7:   Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute, Second, mSeconds;
Columns 8-11:  Bx(GSM), By(GSM), Bz(GSM),|B|; 
Columns 12-14: X(GSM), Y(GSM), Z(GSM).
If you have problem obtaining these data, please send a message to 
guan at igpp.ucla.edu (before Dec. 18 and after Jan. 19) or 
ctrussell at igpp.ucla.edu (between Dec. 19 - Jan. 19) and they will be sent 
to you via electronic mail.

If a paper results from your analysis, please remember to acknowledge Ron
Lepping for providing IMF data. It is always prudent to send the principal 
investigator a copy of your paper in advance of submittal to the journal.

IMP-8 solar wind proton data from the Los Alamos electrostatic analyzer are also
available until December 1992. These data are on-line at 5-minute resolution.
You will be able to access these data through GEM bulletin board or UCLA 
guest account very soon. If you need these data now, please send a data
request to Chris Russell at ctrussell at igpp.ucla.edu.  Please remember to thank 
J. T. Gosling or S. Bame for these data.
