THE MAGNETOSPHERIC SPDS
-----------------------
From: David Sibeck (sibeck at aplsp.DNET.NASA.GOV)

Over the past 35 years, NASA and other agencies have sponsored the
acquisition of numerous valuable magnetospheric physics data sets.
Recognizing that the full value of these data sets can only be
realized when they are easily accessible to the entire scientific
community, NASA's Space Physics Division has encouraged the
establishment of a Space Physics Data System (SPDS) linking
distributed Internet nodes able to provide the data to users
electronically.

The SPDS is growing rapidly, and a wide variety of ground and
satellite data sets are already available. Interested users who are
connected to the Internet can learn more about SPDS activities and
obtain useful software by examining the SPDS home page at
http://ndadsb.gsfc.nasa.gov/spds/spds.html, logging in by decnet to nssdca
with userid spds, or logging in by telnet to nssdca.gsfc.nasa.gov
with userid spds. Those researchers who need introductory information
on the Internet or Web browsers should attend presentations planned
for the Spring AGU in Baltimore and the XXI IUGG General Assembly in
Boulder, Colorado, or contact one of the members of the SPDS listed
below.

Researchers willing to share near- or on-line observations, models, or
simulation results relevent to magnetospheric physics are invited to
contact Geoff Reeves (reeves at lanl.gov), who is preparing a page for
display on the Web. Further information concerning the SPDS and
planned funding opportunities to restore and place valuable data
sets on-line will be announced shortly on this Web page.
