UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF THE FAST CAMPAIGN PERIOD FOR PEOPLE 
INTERESTED IN THE INTERNATIONAL AURORAL STUDY (IAS)

Changes in the FAST launch window dictated by power considerations
will change the primary campaign period for the FAST satellite. The
exact launch data (and therefore the campaign period) is not yet 
fixed and will depend on upcoming launches including TOMS, as well 
as on local conditions during the launch window. The current best 
estimate is that the launch will occur on July 30, 1995 (a window of
7/30/95-8/15/95). This will result in a campaign which is earlier 
than originally planned. For example, if the launch occurs on July 
30, 1995, apogee will reach its maximum latitude (the point which 
defines the center of the campaign period) during the third week of
December at a local time of 22-24 hours. The prime time for auroral
observations will then be December and early January. The prime cusp
period would be the last few weeks of November.
