GGCM Workshop (WG 5) Agenda for Snowmass'95
-------------------------------------------
From: G. Siscoe (siscoe at bu-ast.bu.edu)

           Greetings from Working Group 5

The following is the WG's agenda for its Wednesday Snowmass
workshop. The themes this summer are storms, radiation belts,
evolving the capabilities of a modularized GGCM, and substorms as
GGCM entities. The time Wednesday will be devoted to four tasks: 1.
establishing GEM's participation in an inter-project, inter-agency
magnetic storm study; 2. establishing a GEM program that identifies
and addresses scientific issues pertaining to radiation belts; 3.
continuing the effort to increase the capabilities of a prototype
modularized GGCM--as represented by the RCM--and its couplings to the
solar wind and the tail; and 4. continuing the effort to treat the
substorm as an element in a GGCM.

The storm-radiation belt activity is new. It is the subject of
subworking group 2. The WG is fortunate indeed that Mary Hudson has
agreed to lead this group. She has organized an interesting program,
including two tutorials, to initiate GEM activities on these topics.
Mary takes over leadership of subgroup 2 from Bill Lotko who led the
group during the boundary-layer phase of GEM activities. WG 5 is
very much indebted to Bill for carrying out this task on its behalf
while he also took care of other more pressing GEM duties.

Subworking groups 1 and 3 leaders, Dick Wolf and Michael Hesse, have
organized sessions aimed at moving the GGCM assembly project forward
quickly by expanding the connectedness of the inner RCM module to the
solar wind, ionosphere, and tail and by identifying and treating the
substorm as a special problem in GGCM assembly.

This is a workshop open to all interested GEM participants. The
agenda gives much time for discussions and interactions. Everyone
is encouraged to attend and join in.
