Dear GEM student community
Once again the GEM steering committee and more specifically Harlan Spence
have allowed a bunch of students to organize 'student seminars.' This is
the second attempt at having an afternoon of seminars *for and by*
students. The seminars will cover background material that will be assumed
as common knowledge during the GEM meeting.

We will be having these seminars on Sunday June 15 in Snowmass, in the
afternoon, meeting for lunch beforehand. We have changed the format from last
years student talks to cover four general areas. In each area we have
assembled a list of topics that we would like student volunteers to speak
about. This list of topics is intended to be a guide for the presenter and the
details of talk can be worked out with that sessions moderator. Furthermore if
you would like to speak about a topic not listed here please feel free to
contact us with your ideas!

	1997 Gem Student Tutorials

	Session I - Regional Descriptions
Magnetosheath - Magnetopause - Boundary Layers
		Cusp - Separatrix
Inner Magnetosphere (e.g. Ring current and plasmasphere)
Outer Magnetosphere (e.g. Lobes, Magnetotail, Plasma Sheet
                                     Boundary Layer, and Plasma Sheet)
		Ionosphere
		Currents - Region 1, 2 and Cusp

        Session II - Convection
Ionospheric Signatures (e.g. AMIE pictures and
					Hepner-Maynard Convection Patterns)
		Dayside (e.g. FTEs)
Nightside (e.g. Convections bays and BBFs)

	Session III - Phenomenology
		Storms
		  General Description
		  Magnetic Cloud Events
		Substorm
		  General Description
		  Ionospheric Signatures
		  Current Models

	Session IV - Modeling
		Global MHD models
		Rice Convection model
	        Empirical models (e.g. Tsyganenko)

If you are interested in presenting at this years student seminars please
contact Karen Lewis Hirsch (hirsch at bu.edu). Thank you for your interest
and see you at GEM soon!
