*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 7, Number 8 March 25, 1997 -------------------------------------------- JGR Special Issue for the Nov 93 Event Study -------------------------------------------- From: knippdj at sting.usafa.af.mil (Delores Knipp) To all participants of the Nov 93 Event Study! I've been coordinating with Tamas Gombosi regarding the JGR Special Issue for the November 1993 event. Dr Gombosi wishes to print the special invitation shown below in the May issue of JGR-Blue in order to get maximum participation for the special issue. Therefore the deadline for submission has been extended to 30 June to accomodate the invitation (and work around AGU and other meetings). If you are ready to submit please feel free to do so anytime between now and 30 June. If you are procrastinating, now is the time to write. Please send 4 double spaced copies of the manuscript to the JGR-blue office and one additional copy to me. Dr Gombosi prefers to treat special issue papers in a manner consistent with normal submissions so my role in the special issue will be limited, however I would like to know about significant results that may need to be woven into the overview paper that I am writing. Best Regards Delores Knipp Special Issue Invitation from Tamas Gombosi follows: _____________________________________________________ The major geomagnetic storm of early November 1993 was a particularly long-lived event associated with the fourth rotational occurrence of a large coronal hole. Storm conditions in the magnetosphere and ionosphere persisted for several days after passage of the leading edge of the high-speed stream associated with the coronal hole. Storm onset was accompanied by a magnetospheric compression to within geosynchronous orbit and an extreme disturbance in the ionosphere. Community interest in this storm has produced a wealth of data sets that are being investigated in hopes of tracing the flow of energy and particles from the sun, through the interplanetary medium and into the dissipative elements of the magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere. The data sets afford a unique opportunity for observers and modelers to compare predictions and analyses. Hence, I am inviting observational and modeling papers that utilize the November 1993 data sets (or related data sets that encompass the 2-11 November 1993 interval) to further the understanding of storm dynamics and related phenomena on all scales. I particularly invite papers that synthesize results from multiple data sets. All papers that are received on or before 30 June 97 will be considered for publication as a special section of the JGR-Blue +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |To add name to the mailing list, send a message to: editor at igpp.ucla.edu | |For message to whole GEM mailing list, send to: gem at igpp.ucla.edu | | | |URL of GEM Home Page: http://igpp.ucla.edu/gem/Welcome.html | |Please update your e-mail address. | |CAUTION: Do not send messages to gem at igpp.ucla.edu unless you want | | your message to go to everyone in the GEM mailing list! | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
