SNOWMASS 97

BOUNDARY LAYER CAMPAIGN WG 1: RECONNECTION ELECTRIC FIELD AND MAGNETOPAUSE
BOUNDARY NORMAL MAGNETIC FIELD
*************************************************************
- We will have one 2-hr session this summer for ongoing work.

- Most of the work on dayside-substorms associations is being moved to the
Tail/Substorm WG-1 sessions.

- There will be an additional session on the "Grand Challenge" results that
is being organized by Terry Onsager

*************************************************************

Program for Session on Ongoing Work

*****CURRENTLY PLANNED FOR 10 am-12 NOON ON WED, 18 JUNE****

1. BAKER: Determination of the dayside reconnection rate using SuperDARN
measurements (22 Aug. 1995, 21-22 Nov. 1995, 5-7 Dec. 1995, and/or possible
new periods)

2. MORETTO/RIDLEY: Dayside high-latitude magnetometer response within 1
minute to sudden impulse event (solar wind density up by factor of 2.5) on 22
Aug. 1995.

3. RIDLEY: Ionospheric convection changes in response to reorientations of
the IMF.

4. BLANCHARD: Dayside separatrix identification with incoherent scatter
radars.

5. LU: Global convection response to 18-19 October magnetic cloud

6. SMITH: Dayside-nightside optical comparisons during substorms (12 Jan.
1994 plus other dates).

7. LU (if time permits): Global convection response to January 1997 magnetic
cloud.
