Announcing the release of a new Space Weather Web Site!

Access at http://www.windows.umich.edu/spaceweather

We are soliciting comments on, suggestions about, and contributions for a
new www site on space weather. The site opened on June 1, and was
produced jointly by the University of Michigan's Windows to the
Universe Project (PI: Roberta Johnson), Rice University's Connections
Project (PI: Pat Reiff) and Channel 4's WeatherNet 4 project (PI: Dave
Jones).

The site contains links to "real-time" information on space weather
conditions surrounded by explanatory material, basic information on the
sun-earth system and information on space weather impacts on Earth and
Earth systems. The site has a link to the WeatherNet 4 pages on the web and
has been aired during the 4pm and 5pm Channel 4 weather report in
Washington DC last Wednesday. Aspects of the site will be shown on weekend
weather segments by Dave Jones throughout the next month or more. Because
of working arrangements between Channel 4 affiliates nationally, this
provides a wonderful opportunity for the CEDAR and GEM communities to
draw public attention to Space Weather concepts.

We would like to thank everyone in the community who has already
contributed real-time data, movies, and graphics for the site. We are
particularly anxious that all credit information be correct and
up-to-date on the site. Please send us the credit information you would
like included if it is different from what we have attached to your
material.

Comments on the science content are also welcome and requested - what's
missing, where are more details needed, etc. One thing we are
particularly in need of at the present time are auroral photos and videos (if
you are the copyright holder, we would be pleased to give you whatever credit
line you desire on the site).

We would like to make this as effective a public outreach tool for the
space weather field as possible and a resource for the GEM and CEDAR
science communities. Our hope is that the site will provide a central
location for researchers in the field to highlight their new
results/data/images at a location with high public visibility. Please send
remarks/contributions to the main author, Janet Kozyra (jukozyra at engin.umich.edu)
and Roberta Johnson (rmjohnsn at umich.edu). These email addresses can
also be accessed directly from the web site, or by direct reply to this
email. Thanks for your help and contributions!

Janet Kozyra and Roberta Johnson
