Space Physics Interactive Data Resource (SPIDR)

From: Les Morris <lmorris at ngdc.noaa.gov>

The Space Physics Interactive Data Resource (SPIDR),
(URL http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov:8080/) developed by NOAA's National
Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) is a multidisciplinary geophysical
data browse and access Web site. The site allows users to browse,
display plots or images, and in some cases download data. The types
of data contained in the SPIDR System include DMSP satellite,
Ionosphere, Solar, GOES satellite, Geomagnetic, Cosmic Ray, and RSTN.
Images of nighttime city lights of portions of the world are also
available. The site is dynamic and continually being updated and
improved as we hear suggestions from worldwide users.

The NASA/SPDS funded NGDC to enhance the Geomagnetic portion of SPIDR.
The enhancements include an email contact for assistance, addition of
the geomagnetic hourly value collection, data retrieval, stack plotting
of magnetic observatory data , and delta value computation. The first
three of these have been completed and the last two scheduled to be
accomplished by September 30, 1997. The Geomagnetic portion of SPIDR
contains geomagnetic one minute and hourly values collected by
worldwide observatories and sent to the World Data Center-A for
Geomagnetism operated by NOAA's National Geophysical Data Center.
The present SPIDR collection includes one minute data since 1989 and
the total hourly values collection which dates from 1902 for some
magnetic observatories.

Due to some of the advanced features of the present version of SPIDR
System users should have as up-to-date a browser as available. The
browser should support frames and forms. Netscape 3.01 is recommended
at this time. As mentioned before the SPIDR System is dynamic and plans
for more user features and accessible data will be addressed as resources
permit. The Spaces Physics Group at NGDC would like to thank NASA/SPSDS
for their support which allowed Geomagnetic enhancements to be added
sooner than planned with resulting better service to the worlds
scientific community.
