Subject: Pre-AGU GGCM Workshop

Agenda for the GGCM mini-workshop from 1:00 - 4:00 pm on Sunday, Dec. 7 in
Room 236 of Moscone Center

The primary goal of this planning session is to define the implementation
of GGCM phase 1, which endeavors to make available to the entire
magnetospheric community the outputs of state-of-the-art numerical codes
for a suite of standardized initial and boundary conditions. As announced
earlier, there will be presentations by the three teams that are preparing
GGCM concept studies, which will also address the later phases. In order to
foster
maximum community input, the remainder of the session will be devoted to
pre-prepared and spontaneous presentations on the issue of phase 1
implementation. Here we specifically invite not only modelers but also
users to present their views on how to best achieve the goals of phase 1.
Very useful, for example, would be viewgraphs showing examples of the kinds
of output that is available and the kind of output that people want. In
order to allow for ample discussion, each such presentation should be
limited to five minutes. For the purpose of planning, we ask all
contributors with prepared statements to email to either of us a brief
statement of their intent to participate.

Phase 1 gives us the earliest opportunity to use the GGCM project to
distribute the power of advanced numerical codes to the general community.
It could be put into operation in about one year. Thus it is highly
desirable to have as much community involvement at this conceptualization
stage as possible to insure that the implementation has as much utility as
possible.
