The December 5 GEM Substorm Challenge Working Group Meeting

The GEM substorm challenge working group will hold a 
mini-workshop session on Saturday, December 5th, 12:30 - 2:30pm, 
just prior to the Fall AGU Meeting, at Cathedral Hill Hotel. The 
exact meeting rooms will be announced later; please watch for 
announcements in the GEM Messenger newsletter. Our agenda will 
be as follows:

1. Present model results and comparisons with the data. Several 
modelers have already indicated that they wish to present 
results, and of course, everyone is invited to do so. There will 
be no detailed schedule for these presentations, but please plan 
for no more than 5 minutes because our time is very limited.
If you plan a presentation we would appreciate if you sent us a 
brief e-mail to make planning easier.

2. Establish the substorm timeline based on all available 
observations and interpretations, continuing the efforts begun 
at the 1998 Snowmass workshop.

3. Discuss a set of detailed questions, based on the 
observational evidence, that the models should address.

4. Plan for the continuation and closure of this study. Our 
suggestion is that we finish the study with the 1999 Snowmass 
workshop. The results, both experimental and modeling, should be 
published in a special issue of a yet to be named journal. The 
deadline for submitting these papers should be around August 15, 
1999.
