*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 9, Number 20 June 8, 1999 --------------------------------------------------- Second Announcement and Call for Papers "IGPP Conference on Transport in the Magnetosphere" --------------------------------------------------- From: Joe Borovsky (BOROVSKY at nisdp0.lanl.gov) September 20 - 24, 1999 Old Faithful Lodge Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming abstract deadline: July 2 hotel deadline: August 12 The conference will deal with issues that are central to the transport of mass, momentum, and energy into and through the Earth's magnetosphere. Topics will include magnetotail transport, transport through the inner magnetosphere, ionospheric convection, plasmaspheric evolution, transport across boundaries, sources and losses of plasma and energy, roles of microscale processes, reconnection, turbulence, BBF's, and M-I coupling. The conference web page is located at http://nis-www.lanl.gov/~mdugan/YELLOW/index.html The conference will open with registration Sunday afternoon and an icebreaker Sunday evening, September 19. The conference will close with a barbecue banquet on Friday evening, September 24. To get to Yellowstone, it is preferable to fly into Bozeman, Montana, but you can also fly into Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Travel information from Bozeman can be found in the conference web page. A variety of types of hotel rooms and cabins in the Old Faithful area of Yellowstone National Park are being held for the conference. They will be reserved on a first-come first-serve basis. Information about the room types is on the conference web page and details about the rooms can be found at http://www.ynp-lodges.com/ by pushing the "check availability" button. To make your hotel reservations, phone Tami Whittlesey at (307)344-5518 or FAX (307)344-7456. The hotel deadline is August 12: after this date the rooms being held will be released to the public. The conference registration fee will be about $185 and will be paid directly to the hotel. If you are interested, there will also be a spouse fee of about $42 to cover the icebreaker and the barbecue banquet. This will also be paid to the hotel. Contributed talks and posters dealing with the subject matter of the conference are hereby solicited. The abstract deadline is Friday, July 2.
