*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 9, Number 49 December 7, 1999 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling Working Group Meeting at GEM Miniworkshop ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Ray Greenwald (Ray.Greenwald at jhuapl.edu) GEM MINIWORKSHOP Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling Sunday December 12, 1999 3:15-5:15 PM San Francisco Marriott - Salon 4 The Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling Working Group is planning to use the GEM2000 Summer Workshop to develop objectives and plans for a Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling Campaign. During the past two years, this working group has used the summer workshops to identify a number of issues and controversies related to MI coupling. Now is the time to take the next step and consolidate these ideas and issues into a concrete program that will advance our understanding of the importance of magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling in determining the state of the global magnetosphere-ionosphere system. Ultimately, we need to be sure that the MI coupling modules of global magnetospheric models properly describe the role and impact of the ionosphere from both the electromagnetic and mass-loading perspectives. We encourage everyone interested in this topic to come to the mini-workshop and participate in the discussion. We would like to solicit suggestions on topics that should be included in the planning activities at the GEM2000 Summer Workshop. If you want to show 1 or 2 viewgraphs, please contact Ray Greenwald (ray.greenwald at jhaupl.edu) or Jeff Hughes) prior to the meeting. See you in San Francisco. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |To add name to the mailing list or for a message to the GEM community | | please contact: editor at igpp.ucla.edu | | | |URL of GEM Home Page: http://www-ssc.igpp.ucla.edu/gem/Welcome.html | |Please update your e-mail address. | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
