Announcement of GGCM Metrics Session at GEM 2001 Workshop
---------------------------------------------------------
From: George Siscoe <siscoe at bu.edu>
        Jimmy Raeder <jraeder at igpp.ucla.edu>

The first GGCM metrics challenge has been successfully completed.
Preliminary results were presented on May 2 at SEC during Space Weather
Week. It was decided there that, in view of the success the exercise,
the results of the challenge should be reviewed at the GEM workshop.
This will allow a more complete presentation of results, an assessment
of what went right and what went wrong, and a consideration of a possible
follow-on metrics challenge.

The session agenda will include the following:
* A review of challenge results by Michael Hess
* A discussion of whether to present the results to the general
community and if so in what forum.
* A discussion of lessons learned from this campaign and how to improve
  the process.
* A discussion of a follow-on challenge with other parameters possibly
  included (e.g., field-aligned currents).
* A review of skill-score algorithms used in meteorology by Kent Doggett
  from SEC.
* A discussion of the merits of changing the magnetospheric metric
  into a skill score.
* Other topics

Anyone interested in a definite spot on the agenda please contact George
Siscoe (siscoe at bu.edu).
