Community Coordinated Modeling Center Operational
-------------------------------------------------
From: Michael Hesse (hesse at gsfc.nasa.gov)

The Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC, http://ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov)
is a multi-agency activity aimed at the generation of advanced space
science models to meet space weather needs. The CCMC addresses the entire
range from the solar atmosphere to the Earth's upper atmosphere. The CCMC
consists of distributed computational resources and a central facility
located at Goddard Space Flight Center. The CCMC works with the research
community to create improved and coupled space weather forecasting models,
and to provide community access to the output from state-of-the-art
research models. For this purpose, as well as to facilitate model testing
by a large number of researchers, the CCMC is now offering to the general
research community specific event simulations on request. Initially,
requests for runs of magnetospheric global models are being solicited. In
the near future, solar/heliospheric and ionospheric/thermospheric
simulations will be offered also. At the present time, runs will be
restricted to 2 hours of real time. Model input data are to be provided by
the requestor. Model run results will be made available to the general
research community via our web-based interface.

Any interested individual should submit a request statement to
request at ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov, with a brief description of the desired
simulation, and with contact information. CCMC staff will then contact the
requestor for further information.

In order to select appropriate models to participate in the CCMC process,
the CCMC steering committee is interested in guidance by the research
community. For this purpose, the CCMC steering committee is establishing an
informal Science Working Group, consisting of solar/heliospheric,
magnetospheric, and ionospheric researchers to advise on CCMC policies and
priorities. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in
the working group activities. The expected level of effort in the working
group is of the order of a one-day meeting a year.

Any individuals interested in CCMC Science Working Group activities should
contact Dr. Bob Robinson (rmrobins at nsf.gov) with a statement of interest.
