*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 12, Number 2 February 27, 2002 ------------------------------------------------------ GEM Postdoc Proposals for the 2002-2004 Academic Years ------------------------------------------------------ From: "Baker, Kile B." The CEDAR (Coupling, Energetics and Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions) program at NSF has for many years been providing funding for post-doctoral research support for recent Ph.D. graduates. The Geospace Environment Modeling Program (GEM) steering committee has encouraged NSF to provide a similar award for the GEM program. Post-doctoral research awards are 2-year awards, and the tenure of these awards may be at the institution or facility of the applicant's choice. Either the applicant or a suitable advisor at the performing institution may be designated as principal investigator. This year the Magnetospheric Physics Program at NSF has agreed to provide the funding necessary to expand the CEDAR post-doctoral awards to include GEM related activities. Students interested in submitting a GEM post-doctoral research proposal should submit the proposal in response to the CEDAR Program Solicitation, NSF 02-070. The deadline for submission is May 15, 2002. The proposed research should be relevant to one of the current GEM campaigns (Inner Magnetosphere/Storms, Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling, or GGCM development). In all other aspects, the proposal should follow the guidelines for the CEDAR program. For more information about the current GEM campaigns you can go to the GEM web-site, http://www-ssc.igpp.ucla.edu/gem/Welcome.html The CEDAR program Solicitation is available at: http://www.nsf.gov/cgi-bin/getpub?nsf02070 +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |To add name to the mailing list or for a message to the GEM community | | please contact: editor at igpp.ucla.edu | | | |URL of GEM Home Page: http://www-ssc.igpp.ucla.edu/gem/Welcome.html | |Please update your e-mail address. | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
