Living With a Star Science Workshop 
November 13-15, 2002 
Applied Physics Laboratory, Laurel, MD

Members of the SEC community are invited to attend the 2nd Living With a
Star Science Workshop November 13-15, 2002 at the Johns Hopkins University
Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD. Meeting information, registration,

The goal of the LWS program is to develop the scientific understanding
necessary to effectively address those aspects of the connected Sun-Earth
system that affect life and society. LWS has solar, heliospheric,
magnetospheric and ionospheric elements, and current efforts are underway to
forge a connection with the atmospheric and Earth science community. The
workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss current LWS science as well
as a forum for the development of further scientific collaborations and
initiatives. 
The workshop will include plenary sessions addressing the goals of the LWS
program and LWS science, as well as several splinter sessions, targeting
pertinent data analysis, theory, modeling and technology development topics.

Additionally, recipients of LWS TR&T funding will highlight their research
activities in a special session, and the workshop will host discussions to
stimulate interdisciplinary science within the LWS community. 
The scientific organizing committee consists of Barbara Thompson, Nicola
Fox, Nat Gopalswamy, Lika Guhathakurta, Dennis Haggerty, Michael Hesse,
Robert Hoffman, Paul Kintner, Terry Kucera, Barry LaBonte and Larry Zanetti.

A second announcement containing a preliminary agenda will be released
shortly.
