*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 14, Number 11 April 2, 2004 ---------------------------------------------------- Call for Participants: Global Interactions Campaign ---------------------------------------------------- From: David Sibeck This is a call for participation in the "Global Interactions" campaign recently approved by the GEM's steering committee. Campaign Coordinators are David Sibeck (david.g.Sibeck@nasa.gov) and Tai Phan (phan@ssl.berkeley.edu). One of the two working groups at the forthcoming GEM meeting, "Reconnection dynamics, cusp, and LLBL," will be chaired by Nick Omidi (), Karl-Heinz Trattner (), and Jean Berchem (). This group will consider (1) Local processes at the magnetopause and cusp, (2) The cusp and boundary layers, and (3)Coupling of the magnetopause/magnetosphere to bow shock and magnetosheath influences. The sponsored tutorial talk will be given by Professor George Siscoe. The second working group will deal with “Plasma acceleration and transport” within the magnetosphere, with an emphasis on how solar wind parameters control the entry, motion, and characteristics of plasma in the magnetotail. The chairmen for this group will be Antonius Otto (ao@how.gi.alaska.edu) and Terry Onsager (). The sponsored tutorial talk will be given by Dr. Joe Borovsky. Each working group will be allocated at least a full day for discussions and presentations. Please send suggestions for topics you think should be considered and notices of intention to participate to the relevant chairs and coordinators.
