*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 14, Number 12 April 19, 2004 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GEM 2004 Global Interactions Campaign: Second Call for Participation in the “Reconnection dynamics, cusp, and LLBL/HLBL” Sessions ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Jean Berchem The three sessions will concentrate on (1) Theory and observations of local processes at the cusp and the magnetopause, (2) Formation of the magnetopause boundary layer and the interconnection of LLBL, HLBL, and the cusp, and (3) Coupling of the magnetopause and the magnetosheath, and bow shock influences. Of particular interest to these sessions are plasma transport processes at the dayside magnetopause and in the cusps, since the ultimate objective of the Global Interactions Campaign is to understand the formation of the plasma sheet and its properties under various solar wind conditions. Taken together, these sessions will constitute a review of our current understanding of the dayside transport processes that has been attained by using observations and various modeling techniques and, in addition, will establish a road map of the issues to be addressed during the three-year campaign. Please send us your suggestions and notices of intent to participate at your earliest convenience to allow adequate time for planning the sessions. For information about the meeting, please see the GEM Meeting website at http://gem.rice.edu/~gem. Looking forward to seeing you in Snowmass, Colorado from June 20-25, 2004.
