*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 14, Number 28 June 3, 2004 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Call for Participation: Inner Magnetosphere/Storms Campaign Session on "Analysis of e- PSDs during storms" at the GEM 2004 Workshop, Snowmass, CO, June 21-25 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Janet Green Reiner Friedel IM/S: WG-2 session on: Analysis of e- PSDs during storms The variation of relativistic electron fluxes in the inner magnetosphere has received a lot of attention in recent years with the availability of many observations from platforms such as LANL geosynchronous, LANL GPS, Polar, Scatha, CRRES and HEO. In order to assess the dynamics in a global sense throughout the inner magnetosphere the data has to be interpreted in terms of the Phase Space Density (PSD) at constant adiabatic invariants - which may allow us to identify regions of acceleration and loss processes. This process that has always suffered from our dependence on magnetic field models to calculate the PSD at constant invariants. This session is dedicated to reviewing and discussing our current state of knowledge of e- PSDs during storms, together with the closely linked state of our knowledge of the dynamic magnetic field during storms. We invite both data contributions of PSD analysis work during storms and of modeling efforts aimed at providing higher fidelity dynamic magnetic fields during storms. Those interested in giving a presentation are encouraged to contact either/both of the session chairs listed above. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |To subscribe GEM Messengers, send an e-mail to | | with the following command in the body of your e-mail message: | | subscribe gem | |To remove yourself from the mailing list, the command is: | | unsubscribe gem | | | |To broadcast a message to the GEM community, please contact Peter Chi at | | | |Please use plain text as the format of your submission. | | | |URL of GEM Home Page: http://www-ssc.igpp.ucla.edu/gem/Welcome.html | |Workshop Information: http://gem.rice.edu/~gem | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
