The major responsibility of the Science Assistant is to provide scientific assistance to the Program Officers in all phases of the proposal review process (including proposals for cross-directorate and international programs), program management, and database management. Typical duties associated with the proposal management activities include assisting in the selection of proposal reviewers, editing panel minutes, preparing drafts of panel summaries and drafting justifications associated with proposal awards and declinations. In addition the person selected would work in the areas of information management. This would include participation in the generation of the annual reports, and the Committee of Visitors (COV) reports, data gathering and management. Science Assistants routinely participate in outreach activities, attending scientific meetings, site visits, and act as liaisons on cross cutting interdisciplinary activities. The Division of Atmospheric Sciences includes space physics related activities, and we especially encourage people with a B.S. or M.S. in a space science field to apply. We also encourage senior scientists to bring this position to the attention of any of their students who might be interested. The position is a temporary one with a maximum duration of three years.
