*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 15, Number 5 January 25, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Research Associate in Magnetospheric Physics, Rice University -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Richard Wolf Rice University invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in the Physics and Astronomy Department. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. with specialization in magnetospheric physics or a closely related field and have had experience with numerical modeling techniques. The successful applicant will interface with ongoing research programs in the department that concentrate on theoretical and numerical modeling of global-scale plasmas and magnetic and electric fields in Earth's magnetosphere. Familiarity with the UNIX programming environment and with high-performance computing using Fortran-95, MPI, and OpenMP would be advantageous. Initial appointment is anticipated for one year, with renewal likely for a second year, contingent on performance and availability of research funds. In the case of an exceptional applicant with substantial relevant post-doctoral experience, it may be possible to make the appointment at the level of Research Scientist, which is a regular-staff position, not limited to a one- or two-year fixed duration. Application should include a curriculum vitae, publication list, short description of research interests, and names of three individuals who can be contacted for letters of reference. Applications and inquiries should be directed to Dr. Richard Wolf, Physics and Astronomy Department, 202 Herman Brown Hall, Rice University, 6100 South Main Street, Houston, TX 77005. Phone 713-348-3308. Fax 713-348-5758. Email: rawolf@rice.edu. Review of applications will begin March 15, 2004. Rice University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |To subscribe GEM Messengers, send an e-mail to | | with the following command in the body of your e-mail message: | | subscribe gem | |To remove yourself from the mailing list, the command is: | | unsubscribe gem | | | |To broadcast a message to the GEM community, please contact Peter Chi at | | | |Please use plain text as the format of your submission. | | | |URL of GEM Home Page: http://www-ssc.igpp.ucla.edu/gem/Welcome.html | |Workshop Information: http://gem.rice.edu/~gem | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
