*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 15, Number 45 June 21, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call for Papers for Special JGR Cection on "Results of the NSF-GEM Inner Magnetosphere/Storm Assessment Challenge" Submission Deadline: 2005 November 30 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Amy Knack This special section is dedicated to the presentation of results from the Inner Magnetosphere/Storms (IM/S) Assessment Challenge (IMSAC) of the NSF's Geospace Environment Modeling (GEM) program. The purpose of the IMSAC is two-fold: (1) to assess our ability to simulate the plasma populations of the inner magnetosphere (plasmasphere, ring current, and radiation belt) during a magnetic storm, and (2) to assess our current understanding of the physics of the inner magnetosphere. A few magnetic storms were selected for intensive data analysis and modeling efforts. For the plasmasphere and ring current, the selected events are April 21, 2001 and October 21-23, 2001. For the radiation belts, the selected events are October 21-23, 2001 and September 4-9, 2002. Several measurements were selected as a core data set for each plasma population, available at the ftp site ftp://ftp.nsstc.org/gem/ . All interested scientists are invited to submit original research manuscripts to be considered for publication in this special section. Manuscripts should compare model predictions against the core data set and other relevant data, and interpret the comparisons in terms of the geophysical processes involved. All manuscripts will be reviewed in accordance with normal JGR policy. Manuscripts are submitted through the web site http://jgr-spacephysics-submit.agu.org. For further information about the organization of this special section, contact Michael Liemohn, organizer (liemohn@umich.edu). For questions about the handling of submitted manuscripts, contact Editor Arthur Richmond (jgrsp@ucar.edu). +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |To subscribe GEM Messengers, send an e-mail to | | with the following command in the body of your e-mail message: | | subscribe gem | |To remove yourself from the mailing list, the command is: | | unsubscribe gem | | | |To broadcast a message to the GEM community, please contact Peter Chi at | | | |Please use plain text as the format of your submission. | | | |URL of GEM Home Page: http://www-ssc.igpp.ucla.edu/gem/Welcome.html | |Workshop Information: http://gem.rice.edu/~gem | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
