Dear GEM colleagues:

The recent GEM/CEDAR conference was a resounding success. I want to thank
the campaign coordinators, working group chairs, GGCM steering committee 
members and you the participants for making this happen.

A special thanks also goes to Frank Toffoletto and Umbe Cantu who were 
able to coordinate our GEM activities with CEDAR and still allow the GEM 
component of the meeting maintain as much of the unique quality that 
makes the GEM summer workshop an extremely popular meeting.

That being said, because of a misunderstanding between myself and 
David Sibeck (Global Interactions campaign coordinator), we cancelled the 
Friday afternoon GI campaign plenary session. Instead we had a working 
lunch which allowed us to review in detail the direction for the campaign. 
Unfortunately, while the working lunch was extremely useful, canceling 
the afternoon session at short notice meant that the GEM community 
members who were not at the lunch could not provide input to direction 
for the campaign. It also meant that some who had made special effort to
attend the afternoon plenary session were inconvenienced.

Please accept our apologies.

I would also encourage any members of the GEM community who would like to
provide input to the GI campaign coordinators to please send an email to
either David Sibeck (email: david.g.sibeck@nasa.gov) or myself (email: 
strange@igpp.ucla.edu) outlining your comments.
