*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 15, Number 55 November 13, 2005 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Global M-I Coupling "Pre-Challenge" Mini-GEM Fall AGU 2005, Sunday Dec 4th 3:30 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: David Murr Our goal for this session is to discuss and construct the best possible "GEM Challenge" for the Global MI Coupling working group. By "best possible" we mean a "challenge" that will produce the greatest possible return in terms of new insights into the physics governing MI coupling on global spatial scales. To this end we have identified five intervals for study as a "Pre-Challenge"; it is hoped that global modelers and observationalists will present and discuss their results and measurements for these five intervals at this session. By examining these five intervals we will determine the qualities and requirements of a "challenge" event(s) that would best expose the underlying physics of global MI coupling and how well these dynamics are currently represented in the global models. (We hope to expose any existing observational weaknesses as well.) Please visit http://engineering.dartmouth.edu/~dmurr/minigem/ "Pre-Challenge" Intervals 1. Jul. 16, 2000, 16:30-18:30 UT.
