*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 15, Number 56 November 14, 2005 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call for GEM Participation in the 2006 Yosemite Workshop --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Jerry Goldstein We are soliciting contributed papers from the GEM community, for the 2006 Yosemite Workshop on Global Aspects of Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling, to take place 7-10 February 2006 (Tuesday through Friday) in the beautiful Yosemite National Park in Yosemite, California. The topic of the workshop is directly relevant to the goals of GEM. In recent years, the abundance of imaging and multiple in situ observations has contributed strongly to GEM efforts. Models of the magnetosphere- ionosphere (M-I) system are reaching a level of maturity that will allow us to tackle some of the most stubborn outstanding questions concerning M-I coupling. The 2006 Yosemite workshop will examine the topic of M-I coupling from a "systems-level" perspective. What are the global attributes and behaviors of the M-I system, and how is this M-I system controlled or influenced by small-scale and cross-scale processes? As in past Yosemite meetings, the format of the 2006 workshop will encourage detailed, animated discussions; toward this goal, participation will be limited to roughly 80 scientists. If you are interested in attending the 2006 Yosemite workshop, please prepare an abstract of around 500 words and email it by 15 December 2005 (but preferably sooner) to Cyndi Kempe at ckempe at swri.edu. Once all of the abstracts have been submitted and the program has been finalized, they will be posted on the meeting web site at http://yosemite2006.space.swri.edu. Information about housing, abstract submission, registration, and links to Yosemite Park sites is already available on our web site. We very much hope you will consider attending, and look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely yours, and on behalf of the entire program committee, Jerry Goldstein (jgoldstein at swri.edu, 210-522-5633) Bill Lewis (wlewis at swri.edu, 210-522-5261) Cyndi Kempe (ckempe at swri.edu, 210-522-3828) +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |To subscribe GEM Messengers, send an e-mail to | | with the following command in the body of your e-mail message: | | subscribe gem | |To remove yourself from the mailing list, the command is: | | unsubscribe gem | | | |To broadcast a message to the GEM community, please contact Peter Chi at | | | |Please use plain text as the format of your submission. | | | |URL of GEM Home Page: http://www-ssc.igpp.ucla.edu/gem/Welcome.html | |Workshop Information: http://gem.rice.edu/~gem | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
