*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 16, Number 2 February 3, 2006 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Community Input for GGCM Document Sought --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Jimmy Raeder One of the major purposes of the GEM campaigns is to provide data, science results, and modules that can be of use for the development and/or improvement of Geospace Global Circulation Model(s) (GGCM). However, the definition of GEM campaigns is primarily driven by science questions. Moreover, the campaign coordinators and working group (WG) chairs are often not directly involved in GGCM development and thus not fully aware of the requirements for GGCM. The GGCM Science Steering Committee wishes to collect a list of topics, and compile them into a document, that campaigns might consider to address in order to support GGCM development. These topics relate primarily to the development of modules for GGCM, but also include the development of data based constraints for GGCM and the collection and vetting of suitable data sets for metrics, and model verification and validation, and the solution of physical processes that are not yet understood and therefore cannot be realistically modeled at this time. The GGCM Science Steering Committee believes that this document is best prepared with as much community input as possible. We therefore created a Wiki webpage (http://terra.sr.unh.edu/wiki-gemggcm, for more on wikis see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki) that allows any member of the community to edit the document. After the community contribution phase ends March 31, 2006, the GGCMSSC will edit the document and prepare it for dissemination. We invite every space scientist who wishes to contribute to go to the wiki page and edit the document.
