1. Workshop on "The Cusps"

During the 2006 GEM Summer Meeting the Global Interaction (GI) campaign 
will hold a workshop on The Cusps. The workshop will focus on a long 
standing debate within the magnetospheric community, addressing the source 
region of energetic ions and electrons observed in the cusp regions (local
acceleration versus distant bow shock source). It is the ultimate goal of 
the workshop to compare and discuss observational evidence of cusp 
energetic particles (CEP) and to test models and simulation results for 
energetic ion transport into and out of the cusp. The workshop will assess 
the current understanding and state of knowledge of CEP ions and the 
outstanding issues that can be addressed through coordinated efforts in 
the future.

Observational and theoretical contributions to this session are hereby 
solicited. Questions related to the session on The Cusps should be 
directed to Karlheinz Trattner at trattner@mail.spasci.com.

2. Web Discount Rate for GEM Hotels

As indicated at the GEM Workshop web site, a cheaper hotel rate may be 
available if you use the online reservation system at:  

http://silvertreehotel.com/

Finding the online registration may be tricky.  One way to make a
reservation is to go to the site map (lower right on Silvertree screen) 
and then find the hotel you want and click on the word "reservations" at 
the bottom of the list under that hotel.  We were able to save $45 per 
night on a room in the Silvertree by registering online.
