*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 16, Number 14 May 25, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- GGCM Validation, Verification, and Metrics Working Group at GEM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Aaron Ridley This year starts new GGCM working groups. One of these working groups is focused on Validation, Verification, and Metrics. Ultimately, this working group will help to facilitate "challenges" brought forth by the different campaigns. In addition, having a central GGCM working group will allow better coordination in the different challenges, to possibly ease the burden on the modelers, but yet accomplish the same goals. Further, conducting validation and verification studies is becoming more complex as models are coupled together. In this first sessions of the VVM working group, we will have an open discussion on how coupled models are being validated, how uncoupled models can participate, and how to show that the coupling is actually producing better results. We will limit the number of speakers, and focus on having a good old GEM discussion. Provocateurs will be provided. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |To subscribe GEM Messengers, send an e-mail to | | with the following command in the body of your e-mail message: | | subscribe gem | |To remove yourself from the mailing list, the command is: | | unsubscribe gem | | | |To broadcast a message to the GEM community, please contact Peter Chi at | | | |Please use plain text as the format of your submission. | | | |URL of GEM Home Page: http://www-ssc.igpp.ucla.edu/gem/Welcome.html | |Workshop Information: http://gem.rice.edu/~gem | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
