*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 17, Number 21 August 31, 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Geospace Environment Modeling Proposals ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Kile Baker This is a reminder to the magnetospheric physics community that proposals for the NSF Geospace Environment Modeling (GEM) program are due on October 15. The program announcement is NSF 04-576. It is also recommended that you get a copy of the new Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (NSF 07-140), which has replaced the Grant Proposal Guide, to help you in the preparation of your proposal. The GEM program has undergone a reorganization and is now organized by Research Areas and Focus Groups rather than by campaigns. The current Focus Groups that will be considered for funding under GEM for FY2008 are: 1. GGCM Metrics and Validation (2005 - 2010) 2. GGCM Modules and Methods (2005 - 2010) 3. Foreshock, bowshock, magnetosheath (2004 - 2009) 4. Plasma Entry and Transport into and within the Magnetotail (2006-2011) 5. Component versus Anti-parallel Reconnection (2004 - 2009) 6. Cusp Physics (2006 - 2010) 7. MIC Electrodynamics (2003 - 2008) 8. MIC Global Coupling (2005 - 2010) 9. Near Earth Magnetosphere: plasma, fields, and coupling (2006 - 2011) 10. Space Radiation Climatology (2006 - 2011) 11. Diffuse Auroral Precipitation (2006 - 2011) Note that FG 7 (MIC Electrodynamics) is slated to end in 2008 and only proposals that also promise to provide significant input to a GGCM module for M-I coupling electrodynamics will be accepted.
