Assistant or Associate Researcher in Experimental or Theoretical Space Plasma Physics Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, UCLA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Vassilis Angelopoulos UCLA solicits applications for one or more Researchers at the Assistant or Associate level, in the field of experimental or theoretical Space Plasma Physics, at the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics. For more information about the institute visit: http://www.igpp.ucla.edu The institute's Space Physics Center carries out investigations of the solar wind, and the magnetospheres, ionospheres and atmospheres of the Earth and planets. The successful candidate will have completed significant independent research in space physics beyond the Ph.D. level. The successful candidate in the experimental area will have a track record of space hardware development or testing, calibration and modeling in the laboratory or in flight. The successful candidate in the theoretical area will have demonstrated analytical skills in kinetic description and modeling of plasma instabilities. Both activities are complementary to GEM campaigns on tail substorms, modes of magnetospheric transport and ionosphere-magnetosphere coupling. The responsibilities will be to analyze, interprete or model data from the recently launched NASA THEMIS mission, and the upcoming ARTEMIS extended mission, in one of the areas (particles or fields) that matches the candidate's strengths and interests. The successful candidate will participate actively in a diverse and broad space physics research environment across UCLA, spanning basic plasma theory, simulations, space physics data analysis and visualization, and space mission design; and strengthen or complement UCLA's research using space borne or ground instrumentation, towards understanding of space plasma phenomena at Earth, planets, their moons and the Inner and Outer Heliosphere. Applications should include a full CV, a short statement of research interests, and names of three individuals familiar with the applicant's work. Consideration of applications will commence on August 18. Applications should be sent to: Jessica Hernandez-Nunez, Personnel Manager, 3823 Slichter Hall, IGPP, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1567. Inquiries should be directed to: jessica@igpp.ucla.edu or by phone: (310) 825-1580. UCLA is an Equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.
