*************************** ** THE GEM MESSENGER ** *************************** Volume 19, Number 21 June 18, 2009 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call for Ideas: GEM session "AMPERE, Mid-latitude SuperDARN, and other opportunities for new MIC Focus Groups" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: David Murr Within the MI Coupling (MIC) "Research Area" the "working groups" that had transition from the former MI Coupling Campaign to "focus groups" under the new GEM structure have all come to a close. The only currently active focus group within the MIC RA is the "Diffuse Auroral Precipitation" group. Thus, if researchers would like to have a forum within which they can discuss other MI Coupling topics at GEM, they will need to propose new focus groups. This session (at a minimum) will highlight two new observational capabilities that could anchor new focus groups: The AMPERE project, and the new network of mid-latitude SuperDARN radars. These projects and their related science will be described in one of Thursday morning's tutorials. In integrating these new projects with ongoing efforts of the community we anticipate opportunities to achieve major new insights in MI Coupling, and the purpose of this session is to consider how GEM can foster this activity potentially by establishing new MIC focus groups. We invite all researchers to come with ideas about the outstanding questions in MIC and potential focus groups that could address those questions. The session will be held Thursday at 10:30 in the Erickson room. +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |To subscribe GEM Messengers, send an e-mail to | | with the following command in the body of your e-mail message: | | subscribe gem | |To remove yourself from the mailing list, the command is: | | unsubscribe gem | | | |To broadcast a message to the GEM community, please contact Peter Chi at | | | |Please use plain text as the format of your submission. | | | |URL of GEM Home Page: http://aten.igpp.ucla.edu/GemWiki | |Workshop Information: http://www.cpe.vt.edu/gem/index.html | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
