1. Solicitation of Contributions to the Dayside FAC and Energy 
   Deposition Focus Group Session at the 2010 GEM Mini-workshop

The Dayside FAC and Energy Deposition focus group will hold a mini GEM 
workshop session at the Westin San Francisco Market Street hotel (50 
Third St.) in the City Room on Sunday Dec. 12, 2010 from 12:00 to 1:30 
PM.

Our focus group session discussions will include: 1). planning of 
activities for the 2011 joint GEM-CEDAR Workshop; 2). Results from 
event studies and CCMC verification runs, and 3). General 
presentations.

We welcome short presentations on any topic aligned with the goal and 
topics of our focus group:

GOAL: Explain the relation between enhanced dayside field-aligned 
currents and Poynting flux, their sources in the solar wind and their 
impacts in the ionosphere-thermosphere system.

Topics:
*  Dayside energy sources and transport for events with large IMF 
*  Dayside field-aligned current systems for large in-the-ecliptic IMF 
*  The nature of Poynting and particle energy deposition for IMF  BZ>0 
and large BY
*  The role of enhanced solar wind density and speed during such 
events
*  The relation of such events to cusp region thermospheric density 
anomalies
*  Methods for detecting such disturbances; indices vs. space based 
monitors
*  MHD and empirical modeling of related disturbances
*  Overall magnetospheric structure during such disturbances
