New Members of GEM Steering Committee ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: David Sibeck , Chair, Steering Committee Following a successful and well-attended GEM-CEDAR meeting, the GEM steering committee met to select new members. I am pleased to report that Eric Donovan from the University of Calgary is the new Chair-Elect and Jacob Bortnik from UCLA was selected as a new member of the Steering Committee. Josh Semeter from Boston University will be the new GEM-CEDAR liason. Nathaniel Frissell from Virginia Tech joins Jenni Kissinger as student reps. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. CCMC Student Research Contest ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Masha Kuznetsova and Therese Moretto Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC) and National Science Foundation (NSF) are arranging CCMC Student Research Contest. The goal of the Contest is for students to conduct a research project using CCMC tools and services and to write a report. Deadline for report submission is November 15, 2011. Reports will be evaluated and winners selected by mid December 2011. Winners will be invited to give a talk at the upcoming CCMC Workshop to be held in Florida at the beginning of 2012. NSF will provide travel support for 3 winners to attend the Workshop. Report (not to exceed 12 pages) should include problem statement, what and how CCMC tools were used to solve the problem, description of the results, discussion, conclusions, references. Ideally a report can be used as a base for a paper.
