We have two overlying goals for this session: 1) Homogenize the "Three Ms" (Measuring, Modeling, and Merging outflow into GGCMs) by gathering the three subgroups into joint sessions. 2) Work towards a unifying modeling challenge that will maximize participation and answer a broad set of outflow-related research questions. With these two goals in mind, we are soliciting presenters for this session from all "Ms". However, as discussed last June at the GEM Workshop, we will are specifically looking for comparisons of the magnetosphere with and without outflow. If you would like to contribute, please contact dwelling@umich.edu. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. 2012 Mini-GEM Session: Magnetosheath Commonwealth Room of Westin Market Street, Noon-2pm, December 2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Heidi Nykyri and Steve Petrinec We would like you to participate and present your work on magnetosheath studies either at Earth or other planets in mini-GEM workshop on Sunday before AGU at the Westin San Francisco Market Street (50 Third Street) from 12 noon - 2:00pm. We encourage short (at most 5 viewgraphs) presentations related to our magnetosheath challenge described in our magnetosheath white paper http://aten.igpp.ucla.edu/gemwiki/index.php/FG:_The_Magnetosheath or other topics listed in our focus group proposal http://aten.igpp.ucla.edu/gem/pdf/GEM_FG_MSheath_proposal.pdf . Comparative magnetosheath studies between Earth, Mercury, Mars, Venus, Saturn and Jupiter are also highly encouraged. If you would like to talk in our session please send the title of your presentation to Katariina Nykyri (nykyrik@erau.edu) by 30th of November. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Job Announcement: Visiting Young Scientist at Dartmouth College ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Jim LaBelle A visiting appointment for a recent Ph.D. scientist is available at Dartmouth College. The appointment would be for up to 6 months during academic year 2013-2014. The position includes teaching in the departments of Physics and Astronomy, Engineering, or Earth Sciences. Extension of appointment may be possible using appropriate sponsored research projects. To qualify, candidates must be U.S. citizens engaged in research related to space science, planetary science, astrophysics, remote sensing, aerospace technology, or technology dependent on space-based platforms. To apply, send a 1-2 page summary of teaching and research goals, curriculum vitae, and the names of three references to: Visiting Young Scientist, c/o James LaBelle, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Dartmouth College, 6127 Wilder Hall, Hanover, NH 03755. For more information, e-mail james.labelle@dartmouth.edu. Applications will be reviewed starting February 4, 2013. The position is funded by NASA NH Space Grant. Dartmouth College is committed to diversity in hiring, and members of under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ | To subscribe GEM Messengers, send an e-mail to | | | | with the following command in the body of your e-mail message: | | subscribe gem | | To remove yourself from the mailing list, the command is: | | unsubscribe gem | | | | To broadcast a message to the GEM community, please contact | | Peter Chi at | | | | Please use plain text as the format of your submission. | | | | GEM Messenger is also posted online via newsfeed at | | http://heliophysics.blogspot.com and | | http://www.facebook.com/heliophysics | | | | Back issues are available at ftp://igpp.ucla.edu/scratch/gem/ | | | | URL of GEM Home Page: http://aten.igpp.ucla.edu/gemwiki | | Workshop Information: http://www.cpe.vt.edu/gem/index.html | +-------------------------------------------------------------------+
