Editor in Chief Needed for JGR-Space Physics ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: David Sibeck AGU seeks a dynamic, well-organized scientist with comprehensive knowledge of space physics, high editorial standards and strong leadership skills to serve a 4-year term as the editor in chief for JGR-Space Physics. The Editor-in-Chief is the principal architect of the scientific content of the journal. The EIC is an active scientist, well-known and well-regarded in his/her discipline. A primary function of the EIC is to solicit premier science from the best scientists for publication in the journal. Working with the other editors and AGU staff, the EIC is the arbiter of the content of the journal. Among other functions, the EIC is responsible for: - Acting as an ambassador to the author/editor/reviewer/scientist community. - Setting the strategy for the journal. - Leading the editor selection process. - Assigning and balancing review work load. - Decisions of ethics. - Reviewing and contributing to periodic monitoring reports. - Conducting and attending meetings. Journal Scope Founded in 1896, JGR-Space Physics reports scientific advances in aeronomy and magnetospheric physics, planetary atmospheres and magnetospheres, interplanetary and external solar physics, cosmic rays, and heliospheric physics. A search committee appointed by the AGU President evaluates prospective candidates and conducts personal interviews with a small number of highly qualified individuals. The President makes the final selection and appointment. All AGU editors serve at the pleasure of the President. If you would like to be considered for the Editor in Chief position of JGR-Space Physics, please send your curriculum vitae with a letter of interest via email to pubmatters@agu.org. Deadline for applications is 31 July 2013 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Bishop's Acronym Guide (B.A.G.) now available on CEDAR wiki and open for community input! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: or . Due to popular request the CEDAR acronym guide (B.A.G.) has been added to the CEDAR wiki pages. With over 1200 space science acronyms, it is an invaluable tool for both students and researchers. However, there are still many more acronyms that need to be included to cover the wide range of science phenomena, programs, and projects in our field. We invite all members of the CEDAR, GEM, SHINE, SCOSTEP and other space science communities to add acronyms specific to space science in order to make it a comprehensive acronym resource. B.A.G. can be found at http://cedarweb.hao.ucar.edu/wiki/index.php/Community:Bishops_Acronym_Guide To be added, acronyms must fall into one of the following categories: 1. Must be from a funded program (not proposed) 2. Have appeared in a published scientific journal 3. Sensors/instruments must either be built, collecting data, or funded 4. Name of an agency, formal funding program, lab, or center 5. Standard project/program management abbreviations (ex. DR: Design Review) Persons with CEDAR wiki logins can add acronyms directly to the wiki page, while others can send them to Rebecca Bishop (xanthee@gmail.com), who also welcomes suggestions and comments. +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ | To subscribe GEM Messengers, send an e-mail to | | | | with the following command in the body of your e-mail message: | | subscribe gem | | To remove yourself from the mailing list, the command is: | | unsubscribe gem | | | | To broadcast a message to the GEM community, please contact | | Peter Chi at | | | | Please use plain text as the format of your submission. | | | | GEM Messenger is also posted online via newsfeed at | | http://heliophysics.blogspot.com and | | http://www.facebook.com/heliophysics | | | | Back issues are available at ftp://igpp.ucla.edu/scratch/gem/ | | | | URL of GEM Home Page: http://aten.igpp.ucla.edu/gemwiki | | Workshop Information: http://www.cpe.vt.edu/gem/index.html | +-------------------------------------------------------------------+
