GEM-related AGU Session: SA007 - Geospace Research from Antarctica ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Andy Gerrard Dear Colleagues, We encourage you to submit an abstract to the 2013 Fall AGU Meeting session SA007: Geospace Research from Antarctica. A brief description of our session is below. The uniqueness of Antarctica for conducting solar-terrestrial research has been acknowledged for decades. The continent has hosted a variety of instruments dedicated to studying the earth’s atmosphere, its space environment, and solar-terrestrial interactions. Over the last decade, new instrumentation and new automated monitoring stations have enabled exploration of new scientific ideas, covering diverse topics that include investigations of aurora, induced electrical currents, space weather, wave-particle interactions, geomagnetic fields, ionospheric and upper atmosphere composition, neutral wind dynamics, and atmospheric waves. This session solicits presentations and posters describing studies in space physics and aeronomy from Antarctica. Inter-hemispheric and conjugacy studies as well as studies incorporating Antarctic observations in the global context are also welcome. The dates of the meeting are 9-13 December, 2013. Abstract submission is now open, and it closes on 6 August. Please see http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2013/ for more details. If you have any questions, please contact the conveners below. AGU Outstanding Student Paper Awards – Sign Up Now! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Brian Welsch, Jenni Kissinger, Allan Weatherwax At the AGU Fall Meeting in December, students can elect to have their presentation judged for an Outstanding Student Paper Award. The Outstanding Student Paper Awards (OSPAs) are awarded to promote, recognize, and reward undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students for quality research in the geophysical sciences. This award is available for both poster and talk presentations. The student’s presentation of the work is the main focus. By being critiqued and receiving constructive criticism as they present results early in their careers, students will gain presentation skills needed later in life. If you are an SPA student planning to attending the AGU Fall Meeting, we strongly encourage you to sign up to participate in the Outstanding Student Paper Award competition. When you submit an abstract, you’ll have the option of participating in the OSPA--please do! If you are an adviser, please encourage your students to sign up. It's important to note that students cannot be added after the abstract deadline, so now is the time to sign up. After the conference, the anonymous feedback will be sent to you, so it's a great way for every student to improve their presentation skills. In addition, the OSPA committee will soon be soliciting judges for student posters. The OSPA program cannot succeed without judges, so we urge SPA members to volunteer to judge a few student posters at the Fall Meeting.
