Final Report of Plasmasphere Magnetosphere Interactions (PMI) Focus Group Released ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: GEM Communications Coordinator on behalf of Jerry Goldstein Organized by Jerry Goldstein, Joe Borovsky, and Maria Spasojevic, the Plasmasphere Magnetosphere Interactions Focus Group has recently concluded and released its final report online at: http://aten.igpp.ucla.edu/gem/pdf/PMI14_FINAL_REPORT_v2.pdf ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Special GEM Session: Strategic Priorities for Funding in the NSF Antarctic Program 3:30 - 5:00pm, Monday, June 16, 2014 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Bob Clauer and Al Weatherwax This meeting is being held as part of an outreach effort by the National Academy of Science, Committee to form a Strategic Vision of NSF Investments in Antarctic Research. Antarctica is an important platform for some areas of Space Weather related research. Our purpose is to engage the Space Physics community to determine the most important research questions that are ripe for major advances in understanding that require or utilize Antarctic infrastructure that could feasibly be achieved in the coming decade. The reason for this is NSF Polar Programs has asked for guidance in setting priority for funding Antarctic Research due to constrained budgets. We are specifically also looking to determine technological, infrastructure or data sharing developments that can enable the proposed high priority research, opportunities in international cooperation that might help advance high priority research or other innovative arrangements. Please come to offer your ideas and join a lively discussion about research directions and priorities. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Agenda for The Quantitative Assessment of Radiation Belt Modeling Focus Group Sessions at 2014 Summer Workshop ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Weichao Tu , Jay Albert, Wen Li, and Steve Morley The 2014 session schedule for the "Quantitative Assessment of Radiation Belt Modeling" FG is posted on our FG wiki page at http://aten.igpp.ucla.edu/gemwiki/index.php/FG:_Quantitative_Assessment_of_Radiation_Belt_Modeling. We will have time at the end of each session for open discussions. Please join us for the interesting talks and exciting discussions! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Tentative Session Agenda of 2014 Summer Workshop at GemWiki ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: GEM Communications Coordinator In response to a student request at the last Summer Workshop, we have set up the following GemWiki page that contains the tentative session agenda of the upcoming Summer Workshop: http://aten.igpp.ucla.edu/gemwiki/index.php/2014_Summer_Workshop_Sessions Put together by active Focus Groups, this wiki page provides the most updated session plans.
