Special Van Allen Probes Coordinated Poster Displays and Data Outreach Activity 6:00 - 9:00 PM, Thursday June 19, 2014 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Barry Mauk During the Thursday evening (19 June) poster session at the GEM 2014 Workshop, a coordinated set of Van Allen Probes posters from the Project and from the Principle Investigator (PI) teams will be presented providing overview information, recent findings, and procedures for gaining access to the Van Allen Probes data. In parallel with the presentation of the posters, there will be tables and computers where PI teams will provide one-on-one mentoring for individuals to learn how to access the various Van Allen Probes data sets. Please come and participate if you desire to get more involved with the mission. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Invitation to Participate in the CEDAR Workshop: ITM Key Science Challenges during the Van Allen Probes / Great Observatory Era Wednesday, 25 June 2014 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Andrew Gerrard We would like to invite you to participate in the Ionosphere- Thermosphere-Magnetosphere (ITM) Key Science Challenges during the Van Allen Probes / Great Observatory Era on Wednesday, 25 June at 2014 CEDAR. This will be a "Remotely Accessible Session", allowing those not physically present at the CEDAR meeting to participate [and even present]. The proposed workshop brings together the ITM communities, currently distributed across both NSF CEDAR and GEM, to discuss relevant science issues. The timing of the workshop is motivated by the ongoing highly successful THEMIS and Van Allen Probes spacecraft missions, currently providing unprecedented complementary coverage of the inner and outer magnetosphere. Focused efforts will foster the exploration of key ITM topics, including energetic particle precipitation from the radiation belts, ring current loss to the thermosphere, dynamics of sub-auroral polarization streams (SAPS), SAR arcs, ionospheric-modulated electric field diffusivity, and others. We encourage papers on observations from ground and space, models and theory. A round-table discussion will follow the presentations. Please let us know if you would like to make a 10 minute presentation at this workshop, or if you'd like to be included on-line.
